On Sunday the 15thof May we had our first ever sponsored walk, which proved to be a great little fundraiser and social gathering. We had 13 walkers in total that strolled along the river Thames from Island Gardens to Blackfriars. We walked around 7 miles, played a quiz and ended at the Anchor to enjoy a well deserved lunch!
A special mention goes to Alice who raised nearly £300 sponsorship for the walk. We are really impressed with her fundraising efforts and she was great company along the stroll so we hope to see her at our next events in the summer.
The walk has raised £400 for our charity projects and we are due to receive more sponsorship money this week, which we are really pleased and grateful for. We enjoyed lots of sightseeing of the docklands and famous landmarks like Tower Bridge and London’s oldest Riverside Inn.
The next strolls will be on the 12th of June, which will start at the London Eye and will travel south past Battersea Power Station and end in Putney. If you like the idea of learning about Jack the Ripper and Victorian Slum life then the ‘Ripper Ramble’ on the 26thof June will definitely appeal to you!
Walkers can raise money before the event or make a donation on the day for our charity. Please email Lynda@shanti.org.uk to book your place. 02078221869.
