‘Shanti’s best and most Glamourous event to date!’
With our new fashion show rapidly approaching, we just thought we’d take a moment to review our previous fashion show and give you all a taster of what to expect this time around.
World Aids Day (26th November 2010) was Shanti’s opportunity to showcase the great work and achievements of the Shanker Foundation, which is the project they support in India that helps people suffering from Aids & HIV. Shanker not only provides essential medicine, food and shelter to those living below the poverty line but they also focus on supporting further development, social integration, and rehabilitation through running workshops and outreach programs that provide education and teach key skills.
Shanti International‘s guests were welcomed by tasty cupcakes and a harpist. After an introduction to the evening and a brief presentation of Shanker, the upcoming acts, speakers and fashion show the show quickly got underway.
Speakers including university lecturers and a regular Christian Aid spokesperson living with HIV, discussed the reality of the disease and the difficulties in social discrimination that people suffering face.
There was also beautiful soul singing from Selina B and spicy salsa from Zaneta before the vibrant and exciting Fashion show graced the centre of the venue.
Extra fundraisers included a gift rammed raffle filled with goodies from Ben Sherman, tickets to London’s top attractions and autographed memorabilia. We also had an Art auction and as we had a number of large canvas and oil paintings donated to us, which were sold by our Celebrity guest Ben Duncan.
The night ended with more performances from pioneer homeless project worker Donald Waugh, who brought a great entertainment to the evening with violinists, speaking poets and jazz dance numbers.
The event enticed media attention through journalists and the Icra TV Channel also carried out interviews with our director and speakers from the night. The event was a great success as it was full of passion for the causes we support and entertainment from local and talented performers.
We would love to see you all at or next show:
